Andrea Ramsey

Andrea Ramsey comes to the College of Music from the The Ohio State University in Columbus, where she is currently teaches choral methods and undergraduate conducting, and conducts the University Chorus. 

A native of Arkansas, she has 13 years of teaching experience with children’s, public school and university choruses. She received her Ph.D. in music education from Michigan State University, where she was a University Distinguished Fellow and her MM in choral conducting from the University of Kansas.  

An ASCAP award-winning composer, Ramsey composes for a wide range of voices and ability levels and has over 60 works in press with publishers such as Hal Leonard, Boosey & Hawkes, Alliance, Santa Barbara, Walton, Colla Voce and Carl Fischer.  She is composer-in-residence to the Allegro Choirs of Kansas City, where she has twice toured abroad with the choirs to Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic.

She has been a guest conductor around the United States and North American, including Canada, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina, Minnesota and West Virginia.

Conductor, composer, and teacher, Dr. Andrea Ramsey is the Associate Director of Choral Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder.  A native of Arkansas, Dr. Ramsey enjoys teaching and working with singers of all ages and guest conducts and presents regularly throughout the United States and Canada. Her engagements for 2014-2015 include opportunities in Georgia, Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Virginia, Mississippi, Alberta, and British Columbia. As a University Distinguished Fellow at Michigan State University, she studied conducting with Dr. David Rayl, Dr. Jonathan Reed, and Dr. Sandra Snow.

As a composer, Ramsey has approximately 70 choral works in publication with an array of publishers including Alliance, Boosey & Hawkes, Carl Fischer, Colla Voce, Hal Leonard, Santa Barbara and Walton Music.  Enjoying the opportunity to serve as composer-in-residence when possible, she maintains a unique relationship with the Allegro Choirs of Kansas City where she has toured with the choirs to Austria, the Czech Republic, and Italy, and has also enjoyed residencies this past year with the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans and the Choral Music Experience Institute at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
